The Carbon Detectives' website was built by Coreware using three Core Components. Content Core is the Content Management System that the site is built onto, allowing the easy updating of information on the site. Educational information on the site is part of the National Curriculum, so it is important that it is easy to update as when the Curriculum changes.
The second Core Component is Community Core, a web based software application created by Coreware that enables the creation of user communities on websites. In the case of Carbon Detectives, teachers can create groups and assign their pupils an account which keeps track of their progress through the site.
The third component is Hosting Core. Coreware ensure that their hosting package is built specifically for each individual website and in the case of the Carbon Detectives, has to be able to deliver rich, streaming media content such as Adobe Flash and Video, as well as allowing an entire class of children to log into the database all at one time!
